Care That Is Relational, Structured, Compassionate, and Responsive
"Relationships open the door; structure sustains the work; accountability turns insight into action."
At CALM Source, we believe effective care begins with trust. Our services are clinically sound, ethically grounded, and responsive to the real barriers people face when seeking help. We believe authentic change is built through relationships and work—not simply transactions.
Relationships centered around authentic connection are the foundation of our work.
When people feel respected and understood, they can engage in difficult conversations, accept feedback, and move toward lasting change.
That is why we balance compassion with structure. We value acceptance without judgment, while recognizing that accountability, consistency, and clear expectations are essential to meaningful growth.
We aim to support indiviudals to say, "We are not changing who we are. We are growing into a stronger, clearer expression of who we have always been." This is a measure of meaningful sucess.

OUR STORY- Our Beginnings
CALM Source was created in response to a growing need for accessible, ethical, and well-structured behavioral health care. As mental health and substance use needs have become increasingly complex, the importance of building programs that are both clinically sound and operationally strong has never been greater.
Founded in 2015, CALM Source aimed to address a rising demand for services in southern Virginia, especially during the early surge of the opioid epidemic. At the time, access to treatment was limited, and funding across the U.S. was fragmented.
As opioid related overdose deaths continued to rise, the US Department of Health and Human Services declared a nationwide Public Health Emergency in 2017, making a pivotal shift in federal recognition and resource allocation. CALM Source was established prior to the expansion of major federal and state funding initiatives, serving communities across southern Virginia that have been significantly impacted by substance use and behavioral health challenges. From its inception, CALM Source has worked to bridge critical service gaps by providing a continuum of care that supports families and improves community health outcomes.
We are dedicated to serving individuals and families through a model of care grounded in dignity, accessibility, and accountability. We understand that lasting progress often requires more than a single service. It requires coordination, consistency, and a team prepared to address both clinical needs and the real-world barriers that can stand in the way of healing.
At CALM Source, we believe care begins with creating an environment where people feel supported, respected, and safe enough to take the next step forward. Our work is guided by a commitment to responsive programming, strong clinical practice, and a culture of service above self. We strive to build programs that meet community needs while remaining aligned with best practices and long-term sustainability.

"One connection can change everything.
Connection gives rise to meaning. Meaning inspires contribution. Contribution shapes purpose. Purpose motivates healing. And healing restores life."

Those experiences helped shape his belief that people are both fragile and resilient—and that with the right support, structure, and opportunities, lives can change.
Tom often says that no one is more than three decisions away from another person’s circumstances or position in life. That belief reflects the humility and compassion he brings to leadership. It also helps define the culture he continues to build at CALM Source: one grounded in dignity, service, accountability, and a genuine commitment to helping others move toward stability and recovery.
As the owner of CALM Source, Tom actively shapes the organization’s vision, mission, and values, focused on the future and expanding its impact. His identity as a veteran continues to influence that work, including his strong commitment to supporting veterans and building programs that respond to real community needs with integrity and purpose.
